Concert 2006

      Bringing Harmony to North Staffordshire

Introduction Up One Level

OUR 2006 ANNUAL CONCERT was held 29th April with a special performance at the Methodist Chapel in Cheadle once again. We find that this venue is ideal for our purposes since it holds up to 150 audience and has facilities to have a refreshment break at the interval. Following our last Annual Concert we had a complete sell-out with the church full nearly to capacity. Very satisfying for the choir members even though the church "stage" was full to bursting with performers and very little space for the choir itself. Never mind. We learn on every occasion, and will try to arrange things better next time.

Our repertoire this year consisted of - Do You Hear The People Sing?- Bring Him Home - An American Trilogy - Lascia Ch’io Pianga - Nice ‘n’ Easy - House of the Rising Sun - Sealed with a Kiss - He Ain’t Heavy - How Do You Do It? - I Believe - Bohemian Rhapsody

THIS YEAR we had great pleasure in associating ourselves with three great local musical talents.

FIRSTLY -  MARY OWEN has a fantastic Soprano voice and has good experience having sung with the City of Stoke on Trent Male Voice Choir as well as the Wetley Rock M.V.C. in the past. She has lived here in North Staffordshire for many years being married to the Head Master of the Bishop Rawle school which is our practice venue. She sang six delightful pieces of music in two sessions.

SECONDLY -  JUSTIN CLARKE sang with us once again. Justin has a fine Baritone voice which enchanted the audience. Justin lives locally in Wetley Rocks although he travels to many venues to demonstrate his vocal skills.

THIRDLY - THE RODE HALL SILVER BAND from the north of Stoke on Trent returned by popular demand following their last performance. Their usual conductor was incapacitated so his deputy stepped into the breach and wowed us all with their virtuosity and enthusiasm. The night ended with the band playing us Land of Hope and Glory accompanied by singing by our audience. We all enjoyed a "Last Night of the Proms" style concert finish.
